How to handle a water damage claim


Restoring you home after water damage can be most backbreaking task to do. It becomes worst when you face issues like refusal of insurance companies. Some companies do not cover a certain type of water damage while others do.

There are several things you should know to make you water damage claim process smooth:
The biggest mistake most of the homeowners do is they do nothing. This makes damage worst which sometime results in refusal of insurance companies. Some necessary steps should be taken to prevent further loss. 

  • ·         Take some photographs (video preferred) of the damaged area before you start any restoration process.
  • ·         Try to stop the source of water as long the water stays, the more damage occurs. This results in mold.
  • ·         Contact a good water damage restoration firm if you need help for water extraction.
  • ·         Contact you insurance company right after damage and let them know about the situation.
  • ·         Keep all insurance related paper handy and make several copies of the same.
  • ·         Keep all the receipts of payments done for restoration work. These receipts can be later presented to insurance firm to claim money.
  • ·         Don’t throw any physical assets until it is inspected by you insurance firm.
  • ·         No need to do any big repairs before inspection of insurance company. Only mandatory repairs should be done.
